Spring Explosion
It is probably going to be another brown day. . . . .
WOW!
It is all GREEN!
Vermont had a green explosion!
There are tons of grass and flowers.
There are bugs out and birds!
It is so wonderful.
I love spring!
Buckets and Barrels
Hello, I am the cooper. I make barrels and buckets. I create them for spoons and other stuff.
I use a hammer to pound in the rings. I create barrels to give to the blacksmith so he can build rings for my barrels. I sell big, medium, and small barrels. I have to line up the pieces of wood, and then I put the ring on, and then I have to carefully turn the ring on the bottom.
Thank you for visiting.
Virtual Visit to the Alaskan Iditarod
I chose Ed Hopkins as my musher to follow during the Iditarod. He is from Canada. He is a rookie. He likes the outdoors, and he likes to go hunting. He had the best mustache. Ha ha.
I read a lot of Iditarod books during the race. One was Silver. The setting for Silver was in their backyard in a cold place. There are dog characters and people characters. The girl really likes the dogs. I predicted that the girl was going to get a dog because of the picture of the puppy on the cover.
I also read Iditarod Dream. Dusty is a boy who lived in a log cabin. He had seventeen sled dogs. He trained hard, and he won first place in the Junior Iditarod.
I learned a lot about mushing. The mushers take good care of the dogs. They put on little slippers called booties. Sometimes they run all night. They warm up their food and put it in the bowls. They give them treats along the way.
I made a list of strong Iditarod verbs to use in my writing. I chose jump, yip, blow, yell, slide, fall, slip, scream, sleep, walk, and cheer.
I compared the sport of mushing to another sport I enjoy, skiing. Mushing is different because a musher sometimes uses a pole to help the dogs push, you use a sled, and dogs are an important part. Skiing is different because you use skis and there are no animals. They are the same because they both have poles and they are both cold weather sports.
Celebration: Meeting a Musher
When my class started the Iditarod, I loved it. I even tied my dog to my skateboard. Being on your sled was awesome, Ms. Richardson! I want to be a musher someday!

Our Playground
Our playground has a huge soccer field. We have three slides and four sets of swings. We have seesaws and monkey bars. We have a tetherball and a merry-go-round and to finish it off is the Gaga pit.
Who Am I?
Our class was wild over our two week literacy unit surrounding the Iditarod Sled Dog Race! We challenged our favorite musher by counting each page we read during the race as a mile on our giant map of Alaska. We devoured all kinds of fiction and nonfiction mushing books. We discovered more about nonfiction graphic sources, and we ended every day dancing to “I Did, I Did, I Did the Iditarod Trail.”
Who Am I?
I am the one who yells, “Hike!” through the woods.
The snow sprays on my face.
The dogs are ready to race.
The crowd cheers as I wind the race!
I am the trustful musher.
